To whom it may concern,
During 1991 our family decided to relocate from Pinellas County to an area with less
congestion. After spending over a year trying to find the right area, we decided on 5 acres
1 mile south of Dade City mainly because of the wonderful rolling hills and the small
town atmosphere that Dade City gave us.
In 1994 we built our lovely home and were enjoying our 5 acres and the beautiful grand
oaks that surround the home. Everything was great until 1998 when we experienced or
first flood. Not only has there been the 1998 flood but a 2003 flood and a 2004 flood that
was the worse partly because of hurricanes and partly because of the backup of water
from the 2003 flood.
We were lucky because our home was high enough to keep water from going into our
home. We just have not been able to use our access to our home and that alone was hard
enough, sometimes for more than 5 months.
~
Last year (2004), there were 8 homes flooded. To this date 5 families are not living in
their homes because of this. One family has not used his drive way for over 2 years. A
Nursing Home full of elderly patients had to be evacuated. Why is this? It's because after
spending over 7 years talking and pleading to Pasco County and the Southwest Water
Management District, we have no answer or reason from them to fix the problem. ""--
Please watch the presentation of the Hickory Hills/ Fort King Road area and please
realize the suffering that this development has gone through over the past 7 years. This
area has been here for over 40 years and it seems that government is not concerned with
long time residents, only new development. We all are for new development but it
affects all of us.
If I can answer any questions about the presentation, please call or write me.
Thank you,
