Notes of NEPCC meeting of November 29 at Karyn Pirrello’s home in
Trilby Trails, 7-9:30 pm
Attending: Nancy, Pat, Dot, Carol, Anne, Paul, Karyn, Alma, Richard
and Debbie White, a neighbor of Karyn’s. Debbie has asked to be put on
the mailing list for these notes.
Topics for the meeting were: 1) next week’s meetings and 2) next years
priorities or plans.
Karyn was a gracious host and thanked us for the opportunity to get her
house decked out. We thanked her for the fantastic hospitality, mulled
cider, flavored coffee, eggnog, cookies, etc. Others brought snacks.
My vote for most interesting was Pat’s Pumpkin Dessert. She sent the
recipe a few hours later. I called it Pat’s Upside Down Pumpkin Pie.
Fantastic!
Outside of food, we also had a good meeting.

1:30 or maybe evening public hearings: Land across from Hickory Hills
that was continued from last month (and the month before).
Sorry there are some gaps in these notes. I missed some details in
things like the 1-5 on Dec 8.
There is a meeting on two developments in San Antonio on the evening of
the 6th. They are medium size, medium to upscale, and in the city
limits. We decided that we have too many things on our plate, not that
far from what we support in other places, and that we should
concentrate on the County activities. We agreed that if somebody from
San Antonio came to us for support, we would try to get involved, but
since none of us are citizens of the city, we should just keep informed
but stay out of it.
Where should we go in the next year after everything is perfect with
the Comp Plan (smile)?
Censuses was that we need to keep on top of regular meetings and
hearings, and start working on political support for candidates. It
was agreed that we should support people based upon their environmental
and development philosophies and not their political parties (whenever
possible).
Other comments, observations, blurts, and feelings:
Alma: continuing on her idea of recapturing taxes of greenbelt land
that is sold to developers after many years of ownership at very, very
low taxes.
Anne: concerns about clustering. Many of the concerns that we have
haggled over the past few months, but we are all still concerned about
legal protection of the “conservation set aside.” What if the
homeowners association wants to abandon or, worse still, expand
development, into their un-clustered land in five or fifty years? What
legal restrictions are there to protect the clustering concept?
Pat: Steve Clark keeps talking about large land owner’s rights. We
need to keep speaking our piece and watch out for back room deals with
the developers. We need to start (or continue) to e-mail all five
commissioners and the Staff with our comments. Hobby’s comments were
not discussed in detail at the last CAC meeting, BUT they were entered
into the record because they were mailed to the staff. (comments
augmented by Richard, as usual).
Nancy: We need to keep our eyes open for commissioner candidates that
are supportive of the Rural lifestyle that we have.
Pat: The commissioners will start listening to the large landowners.
Hobby is paid by 24 owners and they will have a lot of pressure. We
need to support the commissioners and tell them how we appreciate THEIR
support.
(Unknown input): The large land owners have rights, but so do we. If
they reduce our land value because they build junk next to us, we are
losing our right to live in a rural area…
Anne: We need to protect the land, not just for ourselves, but for our
children and the legacy of Florida’s future. Will Pasco be a blight
that needs to be cleaned up, or will the people of 150 years from now
be thankful that we protected much of the land for them?
Whew! Again, thank you Karyn for the hospitality.
Please send corrections or additions to me or to everybody.
